Duvalay VW Campervan Pop Top Mattress Topper reviewed

The Duvalay VW Campervan Pop Top Mattress Topper is a 2.5cm memory foam topper cut to the shape of the roof bed in the Volkswagen California Beach, Ocean and Grand California. It costs £163.96 and is designed to add comfort to a thin pop-top mattress without adding bulk.

Shape and construction

According to the Duvalay product page, the topper measures 113 x 197cm with angled corners that follow the roof bed, and it is made from 2.5cm of Duvalay’s Gold memory foam, the brand’s highest-density and firmest foam. There is no choice of foam or depth on this model. The removable cover (67% polyester, 29% viscose, 4% other fibres) machine washes at 30°C, and two storage straps hold it when rolled.

Leaving it in the roof

The slim 2.5cm profile is the reason to buy it. Depending on your van and what else is stored in the roof, the topper can stay on the bed when you close the pop top, so there is nothing to unroll at bedtime. Duvalay is careful to say this depends on the vehicle, and asks owners to check the clearance of their own roof before travelling with it in place. If yours will not close over it, the topper rolls up for the back seat.

Who it suits

We recommend it to California owners who sleep in the roof regularly and find the standard pad thin and firm against the hips. Because Gold is a firm foam, it suits back sleepers best; side sleepers who want more give should know there is no softer foam or deeper option on this model. Owners of other vans have a Universal Pop Top topper at the same price, cut to fit most factory and aftermarket roofs, and Duvalay will cut a custom campervan topper for anything unusual.
