Duvalay Roof Tent Mattress Topper reviewed

The Duvalay Roof Tent Mattress Topper is a 2.5cm memory foam topper sized for each TentBox roof tent, previously listed by Duvalay as the TentBox Mattress Topper. It adds a layer of pressure relief to the thin mattress built into a roof tent, and costs from £174.95 for the TentBox Go.

Sizes and prices by tent

The Duvalay product page lists a version for every current TentBox model (Go, Cargo, Classic, Lite and Lite XL), priced in the table below. All are 210cm long, so in some tents the topper will not reach the full floor area.

Construction

The topper is 2.5cm of Duvalay’s Gold memory foam, its highest-density and firmest grade, in a hypoallergenic cover that comes off for a machine wash. Securing straps are included, and the slim build lets you roll or fold it to suit the space in your car. There is no choice of foam or depth on this model.

Who it suits

It suits TentBox owners who camp often and wake up feeling the floor of the tent through the standard mattress, particularly back sleepers, since a firm 2.5cm layer gives a more even surface without much sinking. Side sleepers who need more cushioning may find 2.5cm of firm foam is not enough on its own. Duvalay is clear that the topper must come out before you close the tent, because it can stop the shell from closing securely, so plan for somewhere to keep it in the car.

Premium or Essentials

Duvalay also sells an Essentials Roof Tent Mattress Topper in the same five sizes, with a standard 2.5cm memory foam instead of Gold and no securing straps. The saving is £70 to £86 depending on the tent.

For regular use we would pay for the Gold version, since the denser foam and the straps make the difference on a bed you set up every trip. For two or three weekends a year, the Essentials version does the basic job.

Both are standard items, so the Duvalay returns policy allows an unused return within 14 days at your cost.
