Laybrook Corfe Adjustable Bed reviewed

The Laybrook Corfe is an off-white damask adjustable divan and one of the most flexible beds in Laybrook’s range: Laybrook builds it as a single, a one-mattress double, a dual with two mattresses on one base, and a linked bed made of two separate bases that can be pulled apart. Each version includes a Q-flex mattress made for the sleeper’s weight.

Mechanism and dimensions

The standard five-part frame lifts the back to 80 to 85 degrees and the knee section by 10 inches and is rated for 18 stone (114 kg) per person. You can upgrade to a heavy-duty, vertical-lift or slide-back mechanism. The bed stands 22.5 inches to the top of the mattress, or 24.5 inches with side drawers, and is 6ft 8in long without a headboard. Laybrook lists a length alteration for every configuration, from a single to a dual with a vertical lift.

Sizes and prices

All prices below include 20% VAT, although Laybrook’s own pages show them without it. Whether you can drop the VAT depends on your health: GOV.UK lists adjustable beds among the products zero-rated for disabled people and those with a chronic illness.

The table shows the cheapest version at each width. A dual adds about 40% over the 4ft 6in double and about a quarter at 6ft; the linked version costs almost the same as the dual, so the choice between them comes down to whether you ever want two separate beds.

Delivery, returns and guarantee

Expect the bed within 21 working days. On most of the mainland, delivery, assembly and a demonstration by Laybrook’s own team cost nothing, while Scotland, the Highlands and a few other postcodes are charged according to Laybrook’s delivery terms, and a paid express service is quicker. If the bed turns out to be wrong for you, you have seven nights to send it back for a refund, and 14 nights to swap the mattress. Laybrook’s three-year guarantee goes well beyond the one-year motor warranty that, according to the National Bed Federation, most adjustable beds come with.

Who it suits

We recommend the Corfe to couples who want independent sides without giving up a shared bed. The linked version is useful if one of you may later need a separate care bed in the same room, since its two bases pull apart and work on their own. A single sleeper gets the same five-part mechanism and made-to-weight mattress as the doubles.
