Emma Box Bed
8.2/10Emma's upholstered frame with LVL slats and an optional height-adjustable headboard, for double to…
A low black metal platform with birch plywood slats and 25cm of clearance, the only Emma bed sold as a single.
No firmness rating from the manufacturer.
The Emma Metal Bed is a low black platform frame with birch plywood slats and no headboard. A single costs £319, and it is the only Emma frame sold in that size, which makes it the natural pick for a guest room or a teenager’s room.
The frame stands 25cm high, and the Emma product page pitches that gap for underbed storage boxes. The mattress sits straight on the slats, so your sleeping height is 25cm plus the mattress depth, about 50cm with a 25cm Emma Original. That is low enough to notice if you have stiff knees or hips. Emma rates the frame for a continuous load of 250kg.
| UK size | Mattress (cm) | Frame weight | Emma price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90x190 | 23kg | £319 |
| Double | 135x190 | 31kg | £449 |
| King | 150x200 | 32kg | £489 |
| Super king | 180x200 | 40kg | £529 |
There is no small double. The step from double to king costs little, so if your room takes a 150cm-wide bed, the king is the better buy for two.
Emma quotes free delivery in 2 to 7 working days, quicker than its upholstered beds. The single arrives in one box and the other sizes in two, each 16 to 23kg, with the tools included. The trial is 30 nights and the guarantee 2 years. The design is plain by intent, with no headboard option and black as the only colour; for a softer look, Emma’s upholstered alternative is the Box Bed.

“We recommend the Metal Bed for a spare room or a single sleeper who wants a sturdy frame that arrives in days rather than weeks. If the bed is the centrepiece of your main bedroom, the bare frame and the missing headboard will feel utilitarian.”Go to shop →
