Aspire Atlantic Solid Wood Bed Frame reviewed

The Aspire Atlantic Solid Wood Bed Frame is a plain shaker-style bedstead in white paint, with a slatted headboard, a low slatted footboard and a solid slat base. It is the cheapest way into an Aspire bed: £135 for a single and £172 for a double in white.

Build

Aspire’s product page says the frame has been structurally tested to EN 1725, the European standard for bed safety and strength that BSI publishes in the UK. Aspire’s listing on B&Q’s marketplace names the timber as solid pine. It goes together without tools, though two people make it easier, and the slats are fixed rather than sprung, so the mattress sits on a firm, flat platform with no give of its own.

The frame leaves 20cm of clear space under the slats. That is enough for standard underbed storage boxes, and an open frame lets air circulate under the mattress better than a solid divan or a fabric-floored ottoman.

Outer dimensions come from the B&Q listing; the headboard stands about 82cm high. At only 8cm wider than the mattress, it is a compact frame for its size, which helps in small rooms.

White or natural

Aspire sells the same frame in a natural varnished finish on a separate page, confusingly under a URL that mentions white. In October 2026 the natural version was marked down much further than the white one, so compare both before you buy. Stock was the other catch: the white super king and both king and super king in natural were showing as out of stock. The frame is imported from China and covered for 12 months.

Which mattress to pair it with

Fixed solid slats give nothing back, so the mattress does all the cushioning. A pocket sprung or hybrid mattress with its own comfort layers suits this frame better than a thin, budget foam one, which can feel hard on a rigid base. The frame takes standard UK mattress sizes.
