Simba Cool Linen Pillowcase Pair reviewed

The Simba Cool Linen Pillowcase Pair is two 50 x 75cm pillowcases in a 60% linen, 40% lyocell blend, sold for £59 the pair. They are the airiest pillowcases Simba makes.

The fabric

Simba blends 60% linen with 40% Tencel lyocell, a fibre made from wood pulp, to soften the handle and add moisture-wicking, while keeping linen’s slubby texture and relaxed, rumpled look. The blend is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the label for textiles tested for harmful substances, and it is woven and sewn by the Costa family in Guimarães, Portugal, with natural dyes.

The 50 x 75cm size fits a standard UK pillow, including Simba’s AeroDown, while the 45 x 70cm Hybrid Pillow will sit a little loose. The cases close with buttons on the closure edge, so they stay away from your face. Linen’s texture keeps a gap of air between skin and fabric, which feels cooler on warm nights.

Washing and care

Simba says to wash with similar colours, tumble dry on low with wool dryer balls, and not to bleach, iron or dry clean it. Linen softens with every wash, so expect it to feel noticeably better after a few weeks than it does on the first night. A second pair lets you change pillowcases midweek, when they need it more often than the rest of the bed.

Who it suits

Choose these if your cheek gets hot against the pillow and you keep flipping it in search of the cool side. The NHS sleep advice recommends a cool bedroom. Your pillowcase is the fabric in closest contact with your face all night.
