The Sherwood is Simba’s most-reviewed wooden bed, rated 4.8 out of 5 from 278 reviews on simbasleep.com. It is a traditional bed with a slatted headboard, made almost entirely from solid ash with no MDF, chipboard or veneer.

Why the slats matter

The mattress sits on sprung rubberwood slats arranged in three zones, 15 pairs on the double and 16 pairs on the king and super king. Sprung slats flex slightly under the shoulders and hips, which adds a little give under a firm mattress and lets air move beneath it. The ash has a washed finish with a soft sheen, and the bed stands 100cm tall at the headboard.

How it compares

The Sherwood and the Ashdown are Simba’s two solid ash beds. The Ashdown costs £50 less per size and has an open headboard of horizontal rails, while the Sherwood’s slatted headboard looks more traditional and has the longer review record. The Fernwood costs the same as a double but mixes ash with veneered MDF. Like every Simba bed, the Sherwood comes with a 200-night trial and free collection if you return it.

Who it suits

We recommend the Sherwood if you want a solid-wood frame that will outlast flat-pack furniture and a slatted base that suits Simba’s own hybrid mattresses. It fits a cottage or Scandinavian bedroom best. Its footprint is generous, 214cm long on a king, so measure a small room before ordering.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Sherwood is the Simba frame we would buy for the long run, with solid ash throughout and sprung slats that do real work under the mattress. Skip it only if you need storage or a single size.”
