The fabric

Tencel is a brand of lyocell, a fibre spun from wood pulp. It absorbs and releases moisture well, which is why it is popular with people who sleep hot. Simba weaves it in a simple one-over-one-under pattern at 200 thread count and then brushes the surface, giving a matte, almost velvety finish that is soft without being fluffy and resists creasing. The fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the label for textiles tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances, and it is cut and sewn by the Costa family in Guimarães, Portugal, using natural dyes.

Inside corner ties keep the duvet in place and the opening closes with coconut shell buttons. The covers are cut to the same four sizes as Simba’s own duvets, so a Simba Hybrid Duvet fills them edge to edge. The brushed surface has a velvety, matte look and the fabric resists creases, so it looks neat straight from the dryer.

Washing and care

Simba advises washing with similar colours and a low tumble dry with wool dryer balls. A cool, gentle cycle keeps the brushed surface soft for longer, and the fabric comes out of the dryer almost free of creases, so there is no need to iron it. Undo any corner ties before washing so they do not knot together in the drum.

Who it suits

Choose this cover if you sleep hot or wake up damp, since lyocell absorbs and releases moisture, and the NHS sleep advice recommends a cool room for better sleep. It also suits anyone who will never iron bedding. It costs the same as the Egyptian cotton cover but feels softer and less glossy. Bedding has a 30-day return window on Simba’s returns page.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Brushed Tencel Duvet Cover is the best cover in Simba's range for hot sleepers, and it saves you ironing. It feels soft rather than crisp, so traditional cotton fans may prefer percale.”
