And So To Bed Dickens Bed
7.0/10A grand Victorian bedstead in polished nickel over sand-cast brass, with a 178cm headboard…
A carved hardwood four poster with Rialto-style arches and barley-twist posts that shorten for lower ceilings, in king and super king.
No firmness rating from the manufacturer.
The Venetian Four Poster Bed borrows from Venice twice over: a run of arches along the base modelled on the Rialto Bridge, and four barley-twist posts topped with carved flaming-urn finials. It is made from sustainable hardwood in an ebony, sienna or maple burl finish and sold in king and super king, from £9,795 for the king with a slatted base.
| Size | Mattress size | Overall width x length | Regular price |
|---|---|---|---|
| King | 150 x 200cm | 175 x 224cm | £9,795 |
| Super king | 180 x 200cm | 205 x 224cm | £10,525 |
The figures are from the Venetian Four Poster Bed page on andsotobed.co.uk, read on 9 October 2026, with the ASTB slatted base; the platform base is dearer. The bed was in a seasonal sale at the time, so you may pay less at checkout. The posts set the width. A king needs 175cm of floor across, 25cm more than the mattress, before you allow room to walk round it.
With the full finial extensions the bed stands 240cm tall. Removable sections in the posts bring that down to 215cm, which is the detail that makes it usable in many modern houses, where ceilings are often lower than in a Victorian or Georgian property. Measure your ceiling before choosing the extensions, and remember a central light fitting may hang lower still. There is no canopy frame; the posts stand free, which keeps the bed from feeling enclosed.
The Venetian is for a large main bedroom where the bed is meant to be the event. The dark ebony finish looks striking against white walls; sienna, the warm brown in the older photos, sits more easily with antique furniture. Couples who want an Emperor four poster should look at the Georgian Four Poster in the same collection instead, because the Venetian stops at super king.
Wooden bedsteads usually take 18 to 20 weeks. Delivery to mainland England costs £45 and white glove assembly £95; Scotland and Wales add £100, and a four poster is a bed you will want assembled for you. Returns must be notified within 14 days and special orders are only returnable if faulty. No guarantee period is published, and for a bed at this price that is the question to raise before you pay a deposit.

“The Venetian is the most theatrical bed in the And So To Bed collection, and the removable post sections mean it does not need a stately-home ceiling. We recommend it for a large main bedroom, provided you secure a written guarantee before paying this much.”Go to shop →
