The Flextail Tiny Sleeping Pad R03 AVS is a 7 cm air pad for camping from spring to autumn that blows itself up. A 33 g rechargeable Air Capsule clicks into the valve and fills the pad in about 90 seconds, then runs the other way to empty it when you pack. It is the least insulated of Flextail’s self-inflating Tiny pads, with an R-value of 3.5, and both lengths cost £115 on Flextail’s UK store in October 2026.

Warmth: what an R-value of 3.5 gets you

The R-value measures how well a pad stops the cold ground drawing heat out of your body. ASTM F3340 is the standard test for camping mattresses, so pads measured to it can be compared across brands, and Flextail states its 3.5 under that standard. Its own chart puts the R03 at three seasons with a comfort floor of about 5°C. That covers a British summer and most spring and autumn nights on a campsite. It does not cover ground frost. If you camp into late autumn or up in the hills, the Tiny Sleeping Pad R05 AVS at R 5.6 is the safer choice for around 200 g more.

Size Length x width Weight with pump Packed size Price
Regular 183 x 65 cm 572 g 28 x 10 cm £115
Regular Large (listed as Regular PLUS) 196 x 65 cm 603 g 28 x 11 cm £115

How it is built

A 20D nylon shell covers lengthways air tubes lined with an aluminium-coated PET film, which reflects body heat back towards you. There are two valves. The AVS port takes the Air Capsule for filling and, turned round, for deflating. A standard valve next to it accepts a pump sack or a few breaths, which matters if the capsule’s battery runs flat on day three. Flextail says one charge fills up to ten pads, so a long weekend should not need a top-up. Weights, sizes and the R-value above come from the Tiny Sleeping Pad R03 AVS product page.

Comfort and who it suits

Seven centimetres of air keeps the hips of most back and front sleepers clear of the ground. Side sleepers can let a little air out for a softer shoulder, though a heavier hip will reach the ground sooner on any 7 cm pad than on a 10 cm one. At 65 cm it is a standard single width. We score it 6.8 out of 10 for comfort and 8.2 for value, the second because the pump is in the box and both lengths cost the same. If you are taller than about 1.75 m, take the 196 cm Regular Large, since it costs nothing extra and weighs only 31 g more.

Delivery, returns and warranty

Flextail delivers to the UK from its own warehouses. Its delivery policy gives 8 to 12 working days for electric goods, which covers a pad sold with a rechargeable pump, and says import tax and duties are already in the price. Returns are tight. The refund policy allows 7 days, only for unused items in the original packaging, and you pay the return postage unless the pad is faulty. A one-year warranty covers defects such as a valve that will not hold air.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Buy the R03 AVS if you camp from spring to autumn and want a pad that fills itself, with no pump sack and no lung work, for 572 g including the pump. It is the wrong pad for frosty nights or winter trips, where you need an R-value of 5 or more.”
