The Bonaparte Deep Buttoned Bed is a Victorian Chesterfield turned into a bed. Hand-threaded buttons cover the rolled head and foot ends, and the frame underneath is solid beech with distressed wooden panels, hand-carved side rails and scroll feet. The brand photographs it in leather, and the king starts at £14,140 with a slatted base.

Sizes, dimensions and prices

Super king 180 x 200cm 201 x 267cm £14,840

Large Emperor 217 x 215cm 232 x 283cm £16,820

Figures from the Bonaparte Deep Buttoned Bed page on andsotobed.co.uk, read on 9 October 2026. The Large Emperor comes with the platform base only. A seasonal sale was running when we checked, so the price at checkout may be lower. The length column is the number to note. A king is 267cm long, 67cm more than its mattress, because the rolled ends project so far. In most bedrooms that is the difference between a bed that fits and one that blocks the door.

How it is built

The headboard is 140cm high and the footboard 104cm, both deep-buttoned. And So To Bed offers a low foot end on request, which we would take seriously given the length. Side panels can also be fully upholstered instead of showing the carved wood. The photos show grey Grampian leather and a red claret hide; other leathers and fabrics are available. Real hides vary, so each bed differs slightly in colour and grain, and softer leathers crease in the first weeks of use, which the brand says is normal.

Who it suits

The Bonaparte belongs in a library-style bedroom, a country house or a large townhouse room with the floor space to carry it. Leather upholstery is soft to lean on, though it can feel cold to the touch on a winter night and sticky in a warm room. If you like the buttoned look but not the size, the Emilia Grand gives you a tall buttoned headboard on a far smaller footprint and at a fraction of the price.

Delivery, returns and the drawbacks

Upholstered beds usually take around 24 weeks. Mainland England delivery is £45, white glove assembly £95, plus £100 for Scotland and Wales. Upholstered items cannot be returned unless faulty, and no guarantee period is published. Add the price, which puts this among the most expensive beds the brand makes, and a showroom visit before ordering is close to essential.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Bonaparte is a full Chesterfield bed rather than a buttoned headboard on a plain base, with carved beech and hand-threaded buttons at both ends. It only makes sense in a very large room, so measure for the 267cm length and ask about the low foot end before you order.”
