The Emilia Ottoman Bed is the storage version of the brand’s Emilia upholstered bed. The whole base lifts on hydraulic struts to reveal a full-size storage well, while a deep-buttoned headboard keeps it looking like a bed rather than a box. It is handmade in the UK and sold in double, king and super king, from £3,550 for the double in fabric category 1.

Sizes, dimensions and prices

We took these figures from the Emilia Ottoman Bed page on andsotobed.co.uk on 9 October 2026. Fabric category 2 costs more. The price rises by only a few hundred pounds from double to super king, so the bigger sizes are the better buy if the room allows. An autumn sale was on when we checked, so the price at checkout may be lower.

How it is built

The headboard stands 136cm high and the foot end just 34cm, so the bed reads low and wide. Unlike the other Emilia beds, there is no choice of slatted or platform base: the lifting deck is the support. And So To Bed states a maximum mattress weight of 79kg for the lift mechanism. Check the weight of your mattress on its spec sheet before you order, particularly if it is a deep pocket-sprung super king.

Who it suits

This is the bed for a flat or a bedroom without built-in wardrobes, where the space under the mattress has to hold spare duvets, suitcases or out-of-season clothes. The buttoned headboard is comfortable to lean on, though at 136cm it is noticeably lower than the 160cm board on the Emilia Grand. If you want both storage and a taller headboard, that combination is not offered in this range.

Delivery, returns and the drawbacks

As an upholstered bed it usually takes around 24 weeks to make. Delivery costs £45 to mainland England and white glove assembly £95, with a £100 surcharge for Scotland and Wales. Upholstered items cannot be returned unless they are faulty, and the site gives no guarantee period, which matters more on a bed with gas struts than on a plain frame. Ask the showroom what cover applies to the lift mechanism.
