No firmness rating from the manufacturer.
The Manoir Bed is And So To Bed’s version of the French lit bateau, the boat-shaped sleigh bed of the Louis Philippe period. The frame is finished in cherry veneer, with rolled scrolls carved by hand at both ends and a heavy bracket foot at each corner. It comes in seven sizes, from a 90cm single to a Large Emperor, and the single starts at £4,800 with the slatted support base.
| Size | Mattress size | Overall width x length | Regular price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90 x 190cm | 107 x 231cm | £4,800 |
| Double | 135 x 190cm | 153 x 231cm | £6,355 |
| King | 150 x 200cm | 168 x 238cm | £6,375 |
| Small super king | 167 x 200cm | 183 x 238cm | £6,885 |
| Super king | 180 x 200cm | 198 x 238cm | £6,885 |
| Emperor | 202 x 200cm | 214 x 238cm | £8,525 |
| Large Emperor | 217 x 215cm | 229 x 254cm | £9,635 |
The figures come from the Manoir Bed page on andsotobed.co.uk, read on 9 October 2026. Prices are for the ASTB slatted base; the platform base costs more, and the Large Emperor is only sold with it. Look at the length column before you measure the room. The scrolled ends add 38cm to a king, so a bed for a 200cm mattress needs 238cm of floor. An autumn sale was running when we checked, so the checkout price may sit below these regular figures.
The headboard stands 101cm high and the footboard 71cm, low enough that the foot end does not block a room. The internal support rail starts 21cm above the floor and the side rails top out at 29cm. And So To Bed protects the veneer with four coats of lacquer and a layer of wax, and its care sheet asks you to keep the room at 17 to 19 degrees and away from radiators to avoid splitting. The listing prices the frame with its support base; a mattress is not among the options.
We would put the Manoir in a period bedroom or anywhere that already leans French. It is also the obvious choice if you want a full set, because the Manoir range adds a bedside chest, chest of drawers, dressing chest and wardrobe in the same cherry finish. Tall sleepers should think twice about the footboard. If your feet already hang off a 200cm mattress, the Manoir Socle Bed drops the foot end and keeps the scrolled head.
The usual lead time for wooden bedsteads is 18 to 20 weeks. Delivery to mainland England costs £45, the white glove assembly service £95, and Scotland and Wales add £100. Returns of beds must be notified within 14 days of delivery, and anything made specially for you is only taken back if faulty. Neither the product page nor the policy pages state a guarantee period. The biggest drawback for the money is the material: this is cherry veneer, not solid cherry, so ask in a showroom how the veneer is laid if that matters to you.

“We recommend the Manoir Bed if you want a classic French sleigh bed in a size most makers do not offer, right up to Large Emperor. Budget for the room length as well as the price, and if you are very tall, look at the footless socle version instead.”Go to shop →
